Our Mission

The Gloria Jackson Day of Service Committee is a 501(c)(3), community-based nonprofit organization committed to creating a lasting positive impact on the residents and businesses of Detroit’s 48213 community and beyond. Our work focuses on three key areas: Food, Employment, and Housing.

Through community events, resource giveaways, partnerships with local organizations, and long-term initiatives, we strive to improve the quality of life for individuals and families while helping strengthen the economic and social stability of the neighborhood and surrounding communities.

Our Signature Event
Family Fun Day

The 4th Annual Family Fun Day returns on August 15, 2026, bringing the 48213 community together for a day of fun, connection, and opportunity. Families will enjoy games, music, food, and activities for all ages in a safe and welcoming environment. Beyond the celebration, the event continues to grow as a platform for workforce engagement, connecting residents—especially youth—to jobs, training, and community resources while strengthening neighborhood pride and unity.

Juneteenth Celebration

Our new Juneteenth event, held June 19th, brings the community together for a fun-filled day inspired by the Santa Claus Workshop. Families enjoy games for all ages including cards, Twister, bingo, Monopoly, and Operation, along with free food. As the event grows, it will also introduce employment opportunities, creating pathways for community engagement and workforce development.

The Santa Claus Workshop

In its inaugural year, 2024, The Gloria Jackson Day of Service: The Santa Claus Workshop offered the community a holiday-themed indoor festival featuring complimentary food, a hot chocolate bar, Christmas crafts, a holiday movie, a puppet show, and more. This engaging, family-centered event drew an estimated 100 community members, creating a warm and welcoming space for connection and celebration.
